Disability Support Pension

Hi everyone,

Currently I am on Jobseeker Payment and have applied for the Disability Employment Services (DES) using a Medical Certificate. My Care Coordinator is also in the process of writing me a Support Letter so I can make a claim for the DSP. This is so I don't have to look for work. But I need a Job to have something to do with my time. In your opinion, is a job crucial for getting better and having a fulfilling busy life or will the DSP be better so I don't have to endure anymore stress whilst looking for work. It would be great to hear your side of the story too if you are on the DSP already or are working towards being on it. Thanks in advance.

Hi there @FearofUnknown

While I haven't had any personal experience in this I did just want to pop by and welcome you to the forums, and leave some other threads that might help to shed some light on this, just while we wait for the right members to find your thread:

Take care

Re: Disability Support Pension

I've been on DSP for about ten years

I was treated with more respect, mostly by health professionals, when I was in the workforce

These days it can be hard o find help that doesn't treat me poorly

Hi @FearofUnknown

I'd discuss this further with your Care Coordinator, but I am on the DSP and currently work part time too:

Re: Disability Support Pension

Update: My Care Coordinator has agreed to complete my application in paper form and will use her Support Letter which the Psychiatrist will sign as the only supporting evidence. Apparently, it will not be rejected even though I doubt it will meet 20 points as per the Eligibility Criteria.

Still not sure if I want to be on the DSP though.
